The U.S. NPD Group Reveals Top Games Of 2019, While The Games Industry Sees A Revenue Decline

Although we are in 2020, the U.S. NPD Group has the numbers up for 2019. According to the firm, the games industry faced a decline in revenue last year compared to 2018. Also, the cards are in showing which games were the best sellers in 2019 across multiple platforms.

I should explain that the U.S. NPD Group gave website the full report, which isn’t currently present on Nevertheless, we learn from the former site that the games industry generated $14.581 billion in sales from “video game hardware, full-game software, accessories, and game cards.”

In case you are unaware, 2018 generated $16.695 billion in sales across the above products. In other words, 2019 was 13% down in revenue if we compare that year to 2018.

On the topic of decline, the games industry faced another downer in the software department in that it was down 9% from $7.2 billion to $6.6 billion. However, the site notes “hardware was the biggest drag” in that it dropped 22% from $5 billion to $3.9 billion.

This downward trend also touched stuff like accessories and game cards in that the numbers dropped 7% from $4.4 billion to $4.1 billion. Contrary to the whole decline is Nintendo with the Switch, which experienced gains throughout the year 2019.

Furthermore, Activision and Infinity Ward have seen an uptick when it comes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. VentureBeat highlights that the controversial FPS game is crowned the top best seller of 2019 in the U.S. as per The NPD Group.
