Michael Koretzky from the Society of Professional Journalists held an event in Miami, Florida back in August, 2015 called Airplay. It was supposed to be themed around the discussion of #GamerGate and ethics in journalism, spawning from the fact that enthusiast and mainstream media had grossly misrepresented the phenomenon in order to peddle their own brand of propaganda and inculcate the masses with misinformation. Well, there’s going to be a documentary surrounding the SPJ Airplay event and some of the cultural fallout that took place between and thereafter.
There’s a new YouTube channel created with a trailer for the documentary, which is two and a half minutes long mostly giving a recap of some of the big events that happened before Airplay, during, Airplay, and after Airplay.
The trailer seems to cover a wide-sweeping array of characters and moments that helped define the Cultural Wars between the shift in 2012 and a little after Airplay took place in August, 2015.
It looks like the documentary will certainly point out the ridiculousness of Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn basically running amok throughout the media, spreading their calumny about gaming to the U.N., and the U.N., preposterously taking their word at face value in order to further defame and denigrate gaming.
The documentary also seems to contain a lot of clips and headlines about the media spinning #GamerGate into some sort of Expendables of deplorables, which only further disenfranchised people with an ounce of common sense, especially leading into the 2016 elections where anyone who wasn’t for Hillary Clinton was labeled as an “Alt-Right Nazi”.
What’s more is that the trailer recalls the early days of #GamerGate, when TotalBiscuit’s video generated a Reddit thread that turned into a graveyard of more than 20,000 censored comments – comments that the Reddit moderators claimed were all in violation of their policies. This actually turned out to be part of a larger plot of collective censorship from the moderators to censor all things related to #GamerGate and any sort of corruption in the games media, as revealed in the leaked moderator chat logs.
But the corruption and nonsense that surrounded #GamerGate – especially in relation to the media – tallies way too high to list off here. There’s a litany of examples that we’ve covered here at this site if you just check the #GamerGate tag, but I’m curious to see what the Airplay documentary will tackle when it airs August 15th, 2020.
(Thanks for the news tip Airplay)
