Overpass Trailer Highlights Tracks With Multiple Routes, Physics-Based Obstacle Courses

A new gameplay trailer was rolled out for Nacon and Zordix Racing’s upcoming Overpass, the off-road, challenge-based racing game built around real-world hill-climbing and physics-based vehicular operation.

The trailer outlines how the game affords players a suite of different options for tackling different courses using the various means to press onward and upward.

This follows on the heels of a previous trailer that went more in-depth about the differential locks that you can use to force the four-wheel drive to accelerate in unison and attempt to gain traction without slippage, as well as being able to use small bursts of acceleration to force the tires over small rocks or up inclines.

You can check out the new gameplay spotlight trailer below.

Instead of focusing on the vehicle physics, the trailer instead hones in on the track differences and some of the obstacles you’ll be encountering along the way.

We see that some of the obstacles include concrete cylinder linings positioned in the ground where players will have to ride over them to reach the checkpoint, as well as piles of logs, or steep overpasses.

One of the things that they keep reiterating throughout each of the trailers is that Overpass is about finding a solution to a route you’re most comfortable with exploiting. There are multiple pathways throughout most of the tracks, allowing you to pick and choose which vehicle you use and which route you take.

To be honest this game looks like it could end up being extremely frustrating if you’re not in a zen state of mind to properly tackle each of the obstacle courses. But like it’s mentioned in the trailer, there’s a strategy element to the game where it’s not just about gunning the accelerator and blasting up the side of the rock. There’s an art-form to hill-climbing and either you’ll learn to adapt to the nuances of the vehicle physics or fail trying.

My only major gripe with Overpass so far is that it’s an Epic Games Store exclusive. That automatically rules it out for a lot of PC gamers.

You can look for it to arrive on the PS4 and Xbox One starting February 27th, while the Nintendo Switch version of the game is due to drop on March 12th.
