Speedway Racing Heads To Nintendo Switch Feb 14th With 4-Player Split-Screen

One thing that Nintendo has done rather aggressively throughout the Switch’s tenure on the market is to remind gamers that the little hybrid that could is geared toward catering its content to those who enjoy 4-player split-screen gaming and online multiplayer fun. This has attracted a number of indie and AA developers to the Switch with a bevy of games that take Nintendo up on that feature, one of which includes the upcoming Speedway Racing from Super PowerUp Games.

The ‘E’ for Everyone rated racing title is a NASCAR-style arcade racer where players will attempt to attack every track and corner with all the aplomb that those left-turns will allow.

Speedway Racing‘s single-player mode will allow players to race against 19 other CPU opponents through a Championship mode, or players can go head-to-head against friends or family in the 4-player split-screen mode, just like during the golden age of gaming.

In addition to the Championship mode and the multiplayer mode, there’s also an online leaderboard where you can post your time trial scores online to see how you stack up against other Nintendonites. There’s also an Arcade mode where you can just engage in some simple races without worrying about any major stakes being at play.

As noted by Nintendo Life, this is probably as close to Daytona USA that Nintendo Switch owners will be able to get their hands on until Sega decides to port the game to Nintendo’s little console that could.

I’m kind of disappointed that there’s no trailer to accompany the news because whether this game is 30fps or 60fps will determine whether it’s worth purchasing or not. The screenshots are native 1280 x 720 so I’m assuming that’s what the resolution will be for the in-game play. I can tolerate 720p, but really this game needs to be 60fps to truly capture the feel of a true arcade racing experience.

You won’t have to wait long for Speedway Racing to land on the Switch, as the game is due to drop on February 14th, 2020 in just two weeks on the Nintendo eShop for just $9.99.
