Star Wars Movies Officially On Hiatus Disney Will Focus on Disney Plus For Now

During Disney’s recent investor conference call, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger confirmed to investors there are no plans for any Star Wars movie at this time. That the entire series on film will be taking a hiatus for the foreseeable future. With all attention focusing on developing new content for Disney plus.

The hiatus is likely aimed to achieve two effects. Chiefly it will allow any negative sentiment built up over The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker to fade with a few years of ideally for Disney popular show and well-received shows before developing the next movie. Secondly and potentially, more importantly, is the shift to Disney Plus removes all creative input from Kathleen Kennedy allowing her to ride out the duration of her contract, which expires in 2021.

On the “television” aka Disney Plus front Iger confirmed the second season of The Mandalorian will be releasing in October. With an additional Rouge One prequel centered around Cassian Andor (aka not Han Solo) being in development. Who the latter’s audience will be is a mystery considering Rouge One’s cast, while generally liked, never hit star status and are very much dead.

Other projects scheduled for release this year are Wandavision in December and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in August. With the latter being self explanatory, the former is the gender-bent Vision show for Phase 4. Like all things woke there is virtually no interest in it on Google trends outside the boost Google has given it near the conference call.

Whether these shows will have the ability to draw those who left in the mass exodus following the season one finale of The Mandalorian will be seen. Without a doubt, The Mandalorian in October will see users returning in droves, but the other woke content has never been a major draw, nor has the Winter Soldier and the Falcon proven themselves crowd draws.
