Exit The Gungeon Now Available On Nintendo Switch, Steam

Devolver Digital and Dodge Roll Singlecore’s Exit The Gungeon launched for the Nintendo Switch and on Steam for PC over the weekend. It’s one of the games that wasn’t impacted by Corona-chan. The multiplayer rogue-like takes everything from the original game, and then turns some of it on its head, which didn’t actually turn out to be the brightest idea from the developer.

So the general gist of the game is that it’s an arcade-style, twin-stick, bullet-hell shooter that’s themed around climbing a dungeon tower filled with enemies. The hook is that it’s a little bit like Borderlands where you have access to a smorgasbord of weapons.

However, the Gungeon (a gun dungeon) is collapsing in on itself, and a sorceress has “blessed” (or cursed) your weapons to randomly change throughout the game. You can probably already see where this is going, but you can check out the gameplay trailer below to see it in action.

The idea is to string together combos and avoid dying; the better you perform and the higher your combos, the more powerful your gun will become.

While this sounds cool in concept, it hasn’t worked out so well in practice, and this has resulted in plenty of people complaining about the feature in the user review sections.

Most acknowledge that the game can be fun and that the intensity is intact, but many criticized the developer’s decision to randomize the gun during battle.

As of the writing of this article, Exit The Gungeon currently has a “Mixed” user review rating on Steam.

We’ll see if the developers address it or stick to their guns in the coming weeks.

Exist The Gungeon is currently available over on the Nintendo eShop for $9.99.

You can also pick up a digital copy from over on the Steam store for the same price, or grab the soundtrack for an extra $6.99.
