Game Informer Faces Yet Another Layoff Session, According To Report

This isn’t the first time that Game Informer has faced a layoff session. As of now, the outlet is going through a business restructure that sees publisher Cathy Preston retire, and six others lose their jobs.

Last year during April, Game Informer and its parent company GameStop (GameStop Corp.) went through a lot in that the latter’s restructuring led to Game Informer Australia to shut down.

We knew about this due to David Milner, the editor at Game Informer Australia, posting a farewell message to fans revealing that the owner of the magazine, EB Games, would be scaling back on its budget since parent company GameStop under-performed on the market.

Nevertheless, Game Informer and GameStop also faced more trouble in August of 2019. The two laid off quite a bit of people back then consisting of West coast news editor Imran Khan, senior associate editor Kyle Hilliard, associate editor Suriel Vazquez, managing editor Matt Bertz, and other names such as Elise Favis, and Jeff Marchiafava.

Well, as of today, it looks like the early part of 2020 isn’t going over too well for Game Informer in that website gamesindustry.biz reports yet another layoff session in motion that has more than six people leaving the publication outlet.

This time, the non-editorial staff departure was confirmed by Game Informer’s editor-in-chief, Andy McNamara, in a post announcing the retirement of publisher Cathy Preston — reportedly serving in that role for 20 years.

It is reported that McNamara expresses in his farewell post that six other staff members are leaving, which brings the total number of people leaving up to seven — unless there’s more that have secretly left.

I’m not sure how long this bleed out phase will last or if the outlet will make it to 2021, but as of now, Game Informer isn’t treading through 2020 easy. Anyway, we’ll keep you updated on the situation when more news hits the web.
