WrestleMania Moved To WWE Performance Center Due To Coronavirus

One of the biggest sporting spectacles of the year won’t be much of a spectacle at all. In fact, it’s going to be a rather quiet, intimate affair that takes place within the confines of WWE’s state of the art Performance Center. That’s right, WrestleMania this year will take place in a glorified training gym, sans an audience.

In lieu of the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, which was set to house up to 80,000 people, WWE announced over on the official website that WrestleMania will air live from the Performance Center.

In the short and sweet post, they explained…

“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”

Originally the chairman, Vince McMahon, was going to keep moving forward with the event in Florida, even against the discretion of the municipal officials.

Ewrestling reported that during an interview with Fox News, County Commissioner Les Miller explained back on March 14th, 2020…

“I’m hoping that Vince McMahon and WrestleMania and WWE make the call themselves but a week from now, if they’ve not done that and we’re still in the situation we’re in, we’ll probably have to pull the plug on that.”

Vince didn’t pull the plug on WrestleMania, but decided instead to relocate it to the Performance Center.

This will, by far, be the most underwhelming WrestleMania in history, given that a large part of the spectacle is hearing the feedback from the live audience and seeing the performers feed off of that energy.

With the energy completely gone, one can only imagine how the show will play out in an empty gym?

Then again, WWE has been in the gutter for some time as far as entertainment is concerned. Their pro-feminist messaging and content and boring TV-PG content has driven most fans away from the product anyway, and if Corona-chan offers them a death kiss, there won’t be any tears shed over here.
