The Western RTS series has returned courtesy of Mimimi Games and THQ Nordic. Originally Desperados III was set to release in 2019, but it was delayed and now it’s scheduled to release on June 16th, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The release date was set with a new trailer that covered Cooper and his gang-related antics through the Wild West.
The trailer is set to Royal Deluxe’s “Dangerous”, which is a cool song but absolutely does not fit with the Desperados motif. Something from Kaleo or Valley of Wolves such as “Out for Blood” probably would have been a better fit.
You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what the game is like.
Desperados III is very much like previous games in the series, where you have control over a handful of characters each with their own unique abilities and skill sets, not unlike Commandos or Mimimi Games other original IP, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.
You’ll be able to make use of various environmental hazards to crush, distract, drown, or kill enemies without directly engaging them.
Alternatively, you can go in guns-a-blazin’, setting fire to the hearts of men with smoking hot lead.
If you’re into real-time tactics and strategy in hand-crafted scenarios, then you’ll likely enjoy Desperados.
However, given that this is a game being made in [current year], you’ll need to be on the lookout for any kind of convergence from what the originals were.
These days a lot of games appear and are stark shells of their former selves. So we’ll see if Desperados III sticks to honoring the series or if it gets woke. Mimimi Games has so far avoided traveling down that path with their previous outings, so hopefully they’ll stay respectful of Desperados.
You can look for the game to arrive on home consoles and PC starting June 16th.
