Sony Reveals The PS5 Wireless “DualSense” Controller

Sony has officially revealed the PS5’s new wireless controller, which is named the “DualSense.” The new controller is said to have been tested by “a wide range of gamers” with a variety of hand sizes to achieve a comfortable, wireless design that uses a rechargeable battery.

Announced on Twitter by Sony, folks wanting to get a closer look at the new PS5 controller can do so right here:

With that said, blog.us.playstation.com reports that the features of DualSense, along with PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, will deliver a new feeling of “immersion” to players.

To further the “immersion,” the team behind the controller’s design wanted to adopt haptic feedback, which supposedly adds “a variety of responsive sensations” while playing a game.

In addition to the above, Sony has incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so that you can feel the “tension of your actions.”

On the topic of buttons, the “Share” button, as seen on the DualShock 4 controller, is no longer on the DualSense. However, Sony has built a new “Create” button for players to “create epic gameplay content” to share with the world.

It’s worth noting that the DualSense also has a built-in microphone array, enabling players to chat with friends without a headset. But, of course, if you’re planning to chat longer than usual, it supports headset use.

Furthermore, the position of the light bar has been changed along with the angle of the hand triggers, and the grip. As one would expect, these ergonomic changes are there to make the controller “more comfortable” than its predecessor.

The DualSense’s rechargeable Battery life is also said to be “stronger” than before, while the overall weight of the controller has been reduced.

Whether the above sounds interesting to you or not, you can learn more about the DualSense by heading on over to blog.us.playstation.com or reading SIE CEO Jim Ryan’s explanation:

“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”

The newly revealed DualSense controller will tag along with the PS5 at launch, where the two will debut for worldwide consumption in Holiday 2020.
