Sega Will Soon Share “Exciting News” About Sonic’s 30th Anniversary, As Per Ivo Gerscovich

All through 2019 and early 2020, Sega has been teasing fans that Sonic’s 30th anniversary will be “big” and “exciting” when 2021 rolls around. Sadly, Sega remained silent ever since January 2020… until now, where we learn “Sonic’s just getting started” as per Sega’s CEO Ivo Gerscovich.

If you are wondering what’s so special about 2021, Sonic Team’s head Takashi Iizuka told Game Informer back in 2019 that next year will bring the release of the next mainline game:

“2017 was a big year for Sonic. The next big year for Sonic is 2021. That’s the 30-year anniversary for Sonic. We are now preparing.”

In other words, expect 2021 to bring forth something new from Sonic Team.

In the meantime, we learn that info on this new game will drop sometime soon. This information comes from publication site nintendolife.com that “exciting news” awaits gamers and fans alike.

Furthermore, the website cites Sega’s CEO Ivo Gerscovich saying that the company has “exciting” Sonic-related news that it “can’t wait to share.” Gerscovich also notes during the recent interview what fans can expect, which the Q&A lies below:

The Sonic franchise is planning on celebrating its 30th anniversary next year; is there anything that fans should expect in the coming months?
Yes! We have some exciting news that we can’t wait to share. But you’ll have to stay tuned for details…

Finally, any last words or pieces of advice you’d like to give our readers?
Stay tuned our friends, Sonic’s just getting started…….”

Ever since January 21st, 2020, Sega announced that it will drop Sonic news every month on the 20th to keep fans abreast. So it’s safe to assume that Sega will use this monthly project to unveil info on upcoming games, which might include this new Sonic 2021 title.

And seeing that we should “stay tuned” for more Sonic news since the blue-blur is “just getting started,” any month on the 20th (including May or June) might prove Gerscovich correct.

While we wait, what do you think Sega has up its sleeve regarding Sonic? Do you think this 2021 game will be as big as Sega and Sonic Team are claiming it to be? We’ll find out soon leading up to Sonic’s 30th anniversary since every month on the 20th will deliver Sonic related news.
