Sony Announces PS5 Presentation To Go Live On June 4th, 2020

Website Video Games Chronicles or VGC predicted that Sony would have a PS5 games related event to go live in the early part of June. Although the website in question was a day off, the content was spot on regarding what Sony will premier next week. VGC’s confirmation comes from Jim Ryan — Sony Interactive Entertainment’s president and CEO — in a new blog post.

Before proceeding on and covering all of the tidbits, you can check out the newly posted PS5 games event trailer right here:

With that video out of the way, according to blog.playstation.com and gamesindustry.biz, you can catch said event via Twitch or YouTube on June 4th at 1:00 P.M. PDT / 9:00 P.M. BST / 10:00 P.M. CEST.

Moreover, the two sites cite Ryan saying how Sony will go on through with its digital event despite PAX and E3 folding under this year due to coronavirus measures:

“Obviously the shows, whether it’s GDC, PAX, E3, Gamecom… they’ve all gone. We have to live in a world where that particular oxygen isn’t available to the industry. It’s not available to PlayStation or anybody else. We just have to come up with ways to communicate what we’re doing, and try and engender the same level of adrenaline, excitement, buzz that we get with thousands of people in an auditorium in Los Angeles. And do that somehow remotely.

Ryan continues:

“That’s the challenge I’ve set the teams: try to get that community, the 100 million people — and all of the people who don’t have a PlayStation we’d like to talk to — just as excited as if they were in the E3 auditorium, or if they were watching the stream.”

In an attempt to get gamers, fans, and critics excited, Sony will host an entire event showcasing a portion of the upcoming PS5 library of games:

“That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.”

Furthermore, the digital showcase in question will run around an hour in length. It’s also worth noting that after next week’s showcase, Sony will still have “much to share with you” regarding the PS5 and its games:

“This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together. A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before. This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next week’s showcase, we will still have much to share with you.”

Nevertheless, despite all of the trouble Sony went through to make the PS5, the next-gen console will bring gamers and fans alike something “new” that can’t be found anywhere else come holiday 2020:

“We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features. […] We also believe that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5.”

And the last thing Ryan had to say about the successor to the PS4 is that its Q4 2020 due date is still on track as of this moment:

“And finally, the people who make games. We, and our partners, seem to be coping really well. And so we are on track. We are going to launch this holiday and we’re going to launch globally. We’re really looking forward to it and it’s going to be a blast.”

Lastly, you can catch Sony’s upcoming PS5 games event on June 4th at 1:00 P.M. PDT / 9:00 P.M. BST / 10:00 P.M. CEST via Twitch or YouTube.
