The Last Of Us: Part 2 Banned In The Middle East, According To Report

According to a website that reached out to Sony, it is said that The Last of Us: Part 2 is seemingly blocked from releasing in multiple Middle Eastern countries. It’s unclear how long this ban or block will last as of this writing, but the PS4 game will still debut on June 19th, 2020.

Publication site reports that the sequel to the 2013 PS3 game is due to launch globally next month. However, the title in question currently does not appear on the listings for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates versions of the PlayStation Store.

Furthermore, the website makes mention of being able to purchase dynamic themes and avatars based on the game in said region, which is also joined by the PlayStation Arabia Twitter account promoting The Last of Us: Part 2’s State of Play broadcast for May 27th, 2020.

The publication outlet also touches on how a PlayStation Support rep made mention of any game that does not appear in a regional store has been “banned by the competent authorities of the country.” Moreover, the rep also noted that Sony “can not do anything regarding” a game facing a ban by competent authorities of said country.

Furthermore, the website notes that the reasons for the ban have not emerged yet. Additionally, the site concludes that it’s most likely due to either the nudity and sexual content mentioned in the ESRB rating or the LGBTQIA+ themes. Also, the website notes that it contacted Sony for more information and will update its piece when word on the situation comes out.

Given all the noise surrounding The Last of Us: Part 2, it will be interesting to see how well the game performs and whether or not it will be able to do well even after its first three days on the market. In other words, will the game accrue noteworthy sales in its first week but bleed off as the month of June progresses? Time will tell through tracking firms like the U.S. NPD Group, Ukie Charts, EMEAA Charts, and Famitsu.

In the meantime, the PS4 game will have a special State of Play episode that will kick-off on May 27th at 1:00 P.M. PT / 4:00 P.M. ET on Twitch and YouTube.
