Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 And 2 Remakes Coming September 4th

Activision has announced that they are remaking the classic Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, arguably two of the best skateboarding games from the 1990s. They’re still fun to this day but the piss-poor frame-rate and poor input latency makes them almost impossible to enjoy compared to a lot of newer skateboarding games, which is why Vicarious Visions and Activision are remaking the classic games for today’s generation of gamer.

According to Skate Punkers, the remakes will feature the original soundtracks from the old PSX and N64 outings. Shocking, I know. Especially in today’s realm where many older games featuring licensed music have the songs removed after a couple of years on the market. That will likely happen with the Tony Hawk Pro Skater remakes, but at least at launch they will retain their original soundtracks.

All of the original skaters from the old games will also be featured in the remakes, too, as highlighted in the trailer for the games.

In a separate seven minute video from IGN, it was revealed that a lot of other classic features will also make their return in addition to the skaters and stages. Secret levels can still be unlocked, and new skater-specific challenges have been added to the game.

The challenge to collect all the letters that spell out “Skate” is also returning, along with other secrets, but don’t hold your breath on any of the licensed secret characters making a return.

Two-player split-screen is also returning along with the new online modes that weren’t present in the older games.

Create-a-park and creat- a-skater return, along with online multiplayer support and deformation support for some of the pieces. So you can create and share your skate parks with other players, as well as showcase your creations in competitive modes.

The increased frames per second and performance is a welcome sight, and the 4K-ready graphics are certainly easy on the eyes. Unfortunately you won’t be playing the remakes on Steam anytime soon since the remakes will be Epic Games Store exclusives, as well as launching on the Xbox One and PS4 come September 4th.
