You Can Travel To Any Place That You See In Ghost Of Tsushima, Says Jason Connell

According to the latest PlayStation podcast, we learn from Sucker Punch Productions’ Jason Connell — who serves as Ghost of Tsushima’s art director and creative director — that any mountain or place that you see in-game, you can reach.

“See that mountain? You can climb it,” is something that Todd Howard said in an early Skyrim presentation during E3 2011 to help promote The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Fast forward by nine years, and on May 17th, 2020, a Sucker Punch Productions dev by the name of Connell pitches the same idea to gamers on the 365th episode of PlayStation’s weekly podcast.

In other words, Connell claims that if you can see a location in Ghost of Tsushima, you can reach it. It’s unclear how restrictive the game will be when it comes to boundaries, but time will surely tell.

In the meantime, you can hear Connel discuss with the PlayStation crew about Ghost of Tsushima’s open-world by skipping to the 28-minute mark of the following video:

In case you cannot access the above video, you can read a transcript of Connell talking about Ghost of Tsushima’s open-world right here:

“When you were standing on that cliff edge on that State of Play viewing, you can see the golden forest off in the background, the mountains, unique trees, a white tree in the distance off to the right, and all of these places that you can traverse to you can get to them.

And that’s a part of our core design and philosophy for the open world is that we wanted to create an experience, a true experience, that you can get lost in feudal Japan. And if you see it, you can get to it. We want you to see those mountain cliffs, and we want you to be able to get to them.”

Lastly, the game in question will release this year for PS4 on July 17th.
