Bethesda Softworks will release Doom: Eternal and Doom 64 on the same day, which is March 20th, 2020. Seeing that both first-person shooters by id Software are to drop in the next ten days, some tidbits on the 64 game have surfaced covering new content and PC specs.
For those of you out there that don’t want to take the safe route, which is getting the old 64 version for PC off the net, you can buy the 2020 version at launch and gain access to a new chapter.
Speaking of this new chapter, website usgamer.net sat down with the game’s senior developer, James Haley, to discuss what gamers can expect from the new version of the old first-person shooter:
“On our end, persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy’s saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64’s] original campaign concludes. The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you’ve been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away. If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy.”
In other words, more demon-slaying and a fight with the Mother demon’s sister. Oh, and some lore.
Furthermore, I know that id Software and Night Dive Studios are working on Doom 64, but seeing Bethesda involved brings back memories of Doom 1 and Doom 2 re-releases featuring additional DRM that required users to log-in with a Bethesda.net account to play.
