Atlus Confirms Shin Megami Tensei V Isn’t Cancelled, Development Still Ongoing For Switch

Switch fans stumbling across rumors suggesting that Atlus and co. are no longer working on Shin Megami Tensei V can brush those rumors off. The forthcoming JRPG is still in development and will one day release for the Nintendo Switch thanks to an Atlus PR person.

It’s fair for you to say that you’ve forgotten about Shin Megami Tensei V, but for those of you that do remember the game and want to know what’s going down, the title is still in development contrary to some reports and rumors.

Publication site thegamer.com relays that despite the “persistent rumors,” Atlus has confirmed to a concerned Reddit user the following in an email:

“The game is still being worked on. Any rumors about SMTV being cancelled are made up.”

As for content and features, back during the mid-part of 2018 publication site ryokutya2089.com offered highlights from producer Kazuyuki Yamai on Shin Megami Tensei V development as seen below:

  • Yamai and crew are working hard on Shin Megami Tensei V, and development is in full force.
  • Demons to new characters and “mostly everything” is currently “running on the hardware.”
  • The devs are making Shin Megami Tensei V with content appropriate for a numbered title, and they’re doing it without any compromises.
  • A full update on the game will be shared when the time is right.

Taking a look back at an even older 4Gamer interview with Yamai released in February of 2018, gamestalk.net offered the following highlights as seen here:

  • Many core staff that the game started with during the beginning of its development are slowly increasing. More people continue to sign on to help the development of Shin Megami Tensei V.
  • As the first console game in a long time, Atlus wants to make a game that people can enjoy playing on their TV.
  • Atlus also considers a handheld device that provides fun experiences, through demon fusion, while laying down.
  • The current goal is to make a title made for both a console and a handheld device.
  • Atlus wants to include a lot of demons, as well as make a game tailored to the system’s hardware specs.
  • Shin Megami Tensei V will have three times the amount of effort put into the demons compared to previous titles.

Although the Switch game isn’t on the chopping block, we don’t have a release date for the JRPG. However, 2020 should fix that.
