Kickboxer: Retaliation Trailer Features Mike Tyson, Van Damme And The Mountain

Even though the reboot of Kickboxer was pretty crappy, very cheap and had some awful action sequences, it managed to do well enough to warrant a sequel, with Jean-Claude Van Damme reprising his role as the trainer, and Mike Tyson joining in as a mentor as well. The main villain of the film is Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, better known to Game of Thrones fans as The Mountain.

The movie stars Alain Moussi as Kurt Sloan. After having defeated Tong Po (played by Bautista in the first film), Sloan resumes his career as a mixed martial arts fighter, only to end up in prison.

Like most prison fight films, Sloan must battle his way out to reclaim his freedom, but he’s got to go through The Mountain in order to do so. You can check out the trailer below courtesy of Rapid Trailer.

The two minute trailer doesn’t make the most sense, but do we really go into fight films because of their dramatic plots?

We do know that Sloan’s girlfriend gets captured as a way to convince him to fight, and that he has to learn some new techniques in order to beat the big bad boss.

Some of his boxing skills are picked up from Mike Tyson, who seems to have a small role in the flick and even gets to tangle it up with Jean-Claude. If the choreography is half as good as what was featured in the last Ip Man film where Tyson and Donnie Yen traded blows, then it might not be half bad.

It’s also fun to see Christopher Lambert back in the martial arts gig. He’s obviously not the god of thunder this time around like he was in the first Mortal Kombat movie.

The trailer always cuts off before anyone really properly connects with any hits, so it’s tough to tell if the movie will have better or worse fight scenes than Kickboxer: Vengeance, which came out back in 2016.

Anyway, you can look for Kickboxer: Retaliation to become available for viewing on January 26th at the end of the month.
