Hi-Rez Attempts To Accrue More Attention With Paladins: Battlegrounds

Hi-Rez is the ones behind the free-to-play MOBA team game Paladins. Despite a recent influx of angry gamers brewing over OB64 Patch Note update 5, the company is moving on to a battle royale mode that is Paladins: Battlegrounds.

Before exploring players thoughts on the current state of Paladins (beta) and Paladins: Battlegrounds (beta), let’s take a look at what Hi-Rez has in store for fans as of right now:

The above video has pulled in the following likes and dislikes as of this writing:

Paladins Battlegrounds 3

Not too many people seem to be happy with this move by Hi-Rez trying to cash-in on the battle royale genre, but that might be due to the team turning the base free-to-play MOBA team-based game into a “pay-to-win” scenario.

Back on December 19th, 2017 to December 21st, 2017 saw a huge spike in negative Steam reviews due to update OB64.

Paladins Battlegrounds

Many fans stated, even to this day, that Hi-Rez is all about money and not about listening to fans. several popular opinions on the matter happen to come from people such as Garretfire™:

“Sadly with OB64 Patch Note update #5 Hi-Rez has shown that they do in fact, NOT listen to their community and did the opposite of what the majority of players were screaming in their face. The new card system introduced in OB64 will unbalance both Casual and Competitive play. I can no longer recommend Paladins as a game for people to try out, it will be a waste of time and effort.

From someone who has enjoyed the game since I got it and put over 1,000 hours on the game, please do yourself the favor and find a different game to play.

I just uninstalled.”

Sanic’s Dad chimed in by saying:

“They don’t listen to the community when it matters, at least at the time of my writting this review. I don’t want this game to die but I’m not coming back until they show they actually take people’s reasonable criticism on board and act on it. Also, pretty buggy.”

And lastly we have Synth3D (Blackwolf) noting that…

“The best free to play game became the worst free to play game overnight. Good job, Hi-Rez.

The developers added a pay to win card progression system that EA would be proud of. The game is completely unbalanced now and nobody is on a fair playing field as champions with better cards have much faster ability cooldown rates making the game much more unfair and completely breaking the balance of a fair competition.

Hi-Rez are the same developers that ruined Tribes: Ascend and they are repeating history with Paladins. Do not support them and boycott the game, they will never learn.

“If your conduct is determined solely by considerations of profit you will arouse great resentment.”
Confucius”.

Many people are saying that the battle royale game mode looks fun, while others are questioning whether it will see more “pay-to-win” functions. Given that it is a game mode tacked on to the base game, there’s no telling if more problems will pop up or if the heated contention taking place within the community will mellow out over time.

Lastly, do you think that moves like this by Hi-Rez will drag the battle royal genre down or do you think that it will help it flourish?
