Escapist Magazine Lawsuit Sees Russ Pitts Trying To Liken Right-Wing Politics With Nazism

The libel and defamation lawsuit that former Escapist contributor Robert B. Marks filed against Enthusiast Gaming and The Escapist Magazine editor-in-chief Russ Pitts has moved forward to the next phase. The defendants, Enthusiast Gaming and Russ Pitts, have motioned to dismiss the lawsuit because they claim that Marks is suing the wrong company and that Pitts wasn’t referencing anyone specific by claiming that former staff at The Escapist were Alt-Right and associated with Nazism, he was simply referencing Right-wing politics. A former contributor for The Escapist, Robert Marks, is moving forward with the libel suit against the new owners of the The Escapist, Enthusiast Gaming. The suit comes on the heels of a July 28th, 2018 podcast featuring the new editor-in-chief, Russ Pitts, who claimed that the content of The Escapist contained promotion of Alt-Right sentiment and that the site had become a recruitment tool for the Alt-Right. Former staff claimed that these statements were not true and that they were potentially damaging and harmful. The Escapist Magazine is coming back. Enthusiast Gaming, the current parent company over Destructoid, is reviving the gaming outlet. They rehired editor-in-chief, Russ Pitts, from back during The Escapist’s early days. [Correction: The original statement mentioned that Pitts was the original editor-in-chief, but he was actually the second editor-in-chief. The original editor-in-chief was Julianne Greer, from 2009 to 2011]

Controversial Star Citizen Articles Removed From The Escapist

Back in 2015 The Escapist published two articles about Star Citizen… one of which contained testimonies from former and then current employees of Cloud Imperium Games. Some of the claims consisted of the employees claiming that Star Citizen was a scam, and intimated that some form of embezzlement may have been taking place surrounding the crowd-funded game.
