E3 2016: Call Of Cthulhu Gains New Video Trailer

Arriving ahead of the upcoming E3 event, which will take place in the next four days, Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide released a new E3 video for their psychological RPG-horror game — Call of Cthulhu. The Cthulhu-based investigation game is currently set to launch sometime during 2017, and is slated for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Every time I see a Cthulu-based game I think of John Carpenter’s 1994 film “In the Mouth of Madness.” Not to say that Call Of Cthulhu is exactly like the movie, but I do get the same vibes from both. With that said, Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide just released a new video for their upcoming horror game that revolves around H.P Lovecraft’s tentacle-crawling universe.

The project will feature RPG elements that will take players from being low in one aspect and will increase as they progress through the game. I’m not entirely sure how the RPG elements will affect the main story, gameplay and other mechanics, but it will be accompanied by investigating surrounding areas and horror elements, too.

In addition to the gameplay, players will be able to sneak around so that they won’t cause as much noise, or draw attention when searching for clues. I imagine this will add some exploration to the investigation side since you will be able to bust into a place or go in silently, creating more ways to approach a single objective.

All of the above will be set in the 1920’s where players will assume the role of Edward Pierce, a former veteran and private investigator in Boston. The game is noted to revolve around the death of Sarah Hawkins (set on Darkwater Island), and will explore the madness of Lovecraft’s work that will test Pierce’s sanity if it’s all an illusion or if it’s actually real.

With that all summed up and with the game’s official description, I guess it confirms why I’m picking up the same vibes from the said movie and game…

“Insanity and the Cthulhu Mythos have long been entwined – as your investigation brings you closer to Cthulhu’s sphere of influence, madness will progressively engulf your senses, leaving you to increasingly question what is real and what is illusory. They say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth and you will have to balance your sanity against your determination to discover it!”

The game is set to come out sometime during 2017, which I’m sure more information regarding the release date and gameplay will be revealed during this year’s E3, and will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
