Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod Suspended Indefinitely

The Just Cause 3 multiplayer mod has been put on hiatus and indefinitely delayed because the lead designer on the mod got a job working at Avalanche Studios. The mod isn’t done for good and may return at some point, but for now the mod creator, Trix, will be doing what he does best… under Avalanche Studios.

Over on the official JC-MP website, Trix made a post explaining why the mod’s development would be suspended indefinitely, writing…

“we’re regretfully announcing the indefinite halt of JC3-MP development. We know you’ve been waiting for news over this past year – your desire to play it is matched by our desire to make it – but there’s a good reason.

“Good and bad news often come in pairs, and this case is no exception; several months ago, I was approached with an offer I couldn’t refuse: to join Avalanche Studios Sweden as a developer so that I could work on projects present and future.”

Now this doesn’t mean that we’ll never get to see all the greatness that could be the Just Cause 3 MP mod, it just means that for now — while Trix and the rest of the team are busy living their lives and fulfilling their dreams — the mod is on hiatus.

The team made waves and became internet famous when they released the JC2-MP mod to a lot of media coverage and positive feedback. The mod was so popular that it helped Square Enix and Avalanche Studios make a ton of cash each and every month from people buying Just Cause 2 just to play around in the game’s massive sandbox with thousands of other players. Valve even jumped in on the action by allowing the mod to be distributed officially through the Steam store.

While it’s disappointing that the Just Cause 3 multiplayer mod is suspended indefinitely, it is good news that Trix got picked up and hired by Avalanche Studios. A lot of gamers had repeatedly said that Avalanche should hire the JC2-MP modders and let them officially build a multiplayer component into the game. Maybe now that’s going to become a real life possibility?
