No Man’s Sky Has Officially Gone Gold

Hello Games sent out word that No Man’s Sky for PC and PS4 has officially gone gold. What does that mean? It means that the development and design of the game is officially complete and they’ve burned all the relevant contents to the gold master disc, and they will be shipping it off for mass production and distribution across PS4 and PC so that it will arrive on store shelves in time for its new release date in August.

Developer Sean Murray from Hello Games posted up a tweet showcasing the “tiny” team celebrating the milestone of achieving the gold master for No Man’s Sky. You can check out the tweet below.

Four years of development, a flooded studio, and several E3s later and the game is finally set to release both on digital storefronts and at a local retailer near you.

The recent delay that No Man’s Sky suffered — moving from out of June to August — was a minor one but most gamers were patient enough to give the game devs some time to polish up on the content so they don’t end up with something like The Division.

The game itself is one of those “too big to be true” kind of tales, where players will venture about the universe, discovering new alien lifeforms, naming them, finding planets, building weapons, crafting ships, fighting, trading, learning and building.

It’s an impressively large game and it actually has a story to it, too. One of the more intriguing aspects is being able to communicate and learn alien dialects. They never go into depth as to how much of this will play a part in the discovery aspects of the game, but it’s cool that they added that in there.

No Man’s Sky is due for release on PC and PS4 starting August 9th. You can learn more about the game by visiting the official website.
