Activision announced that those who pre-purchased Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered for the PS4 can start playing the game’s campaign mode an entire month ahead of the full release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The campaign mode was remade and remastered by Raven Software and overseen by Infinity Ward according to the press release. This news was accompanied by videos of the game’s campaign mode going live on various YouTube channels.
YouTuber GameRiot posted up the first part of the campaign mode, featuring 23 minutes of gameplay. You can check it out below.
The campaign mode is very, very much on rails. It was the start of a new era of first-person shooters back in the day. Linear levels with very little player-agency, NPCs who did most of the work for you, and enemy NPCs who posed very little threat given that your life never actually depleted and you could take cover and heal if you found yourself sucking too bad at the game.
Graphically, you get to see how a decade old game looks remastered for today’s systems. The original didn’t look bad but the remastered version looks a little cleaner.
The gameplay is as generic as it comes, but those set pieces are what made Call of Duty a billion dollar franchise a decade ago.
If you’re planning on getting the game you should be made aware that news has been spreading based on the info on the back of the box that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare must be installed to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, or at least the disc must be in the system if you plan on playing the game. Charlie Intel is reporting that both games and the multiplayer will clock in at 130GB, meaning you’ll need to free up a lot of space to install the game.
If you didn’t pre-purchase the game you won’t be able to play the campaign or multiplayer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered until November 4th next month for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The pre-purchase incentive to play the campaign an entire month early is only available for PS4 owners.
