Mouldy Toof Studios and Team17 announced today that they will be debuting the sequel to the sleeper hit game, The Escapists, at this year’s upcoming TwitchCon in San Diego, California over the October 7th weekend.
Team17 made the announcement that The Escapists 2 was on the way and that it would provide a bigger, better and more intense experience than the first game, which managed to sell more than 1.8 million copies across Steam and home consoles.
Debbie Bestwick MBE and CEO of Team17, commented about the upcoming sequel, stating in the press release…
“One of my most anticipated features in The Escapists 2 is co-op for up to four players. Multiplayer was something we saw our incredible The Escapists community cry out for in the original game and something I’m so excited to see fully realised in the sequel, both local and online,”
“As a player with quite a few prison escapes under my own belt I can’t wait to work together with my friends on escapes.”
Not only did they include new cooperative features and mechanics, they’ve also added new customization features and upgrades. You get a glimpse at them in the trailer below.
Split-screen co-op for up to four-players? That’s righteous. What’s more is that the multiplayer can also be played competitively as a versus mode.
They’ve also overhauled the combat system, introducing new ways to attack, including both light and heavy attacks, along with additional items to craft to help in the escape.
The sales and popularity of The Escapists proves that gamers are more interested in fun games than games pushing the latest buzzwords and social commentary. If Mouldy Toof Studios can capture the magic that they did with the first game, then I think gamers will be pleased with The Escapists 2. Expect to see some gameplay on display at TwitchCon this weekend.
