Realms of Arkania: Startrail cRPG Remake Enters Early Access

Having what some might consider to be an ill-fated studio name, Crafty Studios released the Early Access trailer for their game Realms of Arkania: Startrail. The trailer arrives alongside the announcement that the second part in Crafty Studios’ trilogy of remakes of the classic Realms of Arkania series from the 1990s has entered into Early Access.

The trailer is only 48 seconds long, it’s short and it’s sweet and it basically consists of fly-by footage of the various cities and realms that players will visit throughout their journey through the realms of Arkania. You can check out the teaser trailer below.

The trailer may not show much and that’s probably because the game is still very early on in its development. According to the only review available for Realms of Arkania, the game isn’t even quite pre-alpha yet and a lot of the core playable mechanics are nowhere near complete.

However, they have plans on adding in the soundtrack, the cut-scenes, expanding the combat, adding in more locations to visit and offering mod support by February, 2017. It’s a lofty set of goals for only three months’ worth of work.

Crafty Studios apparently will tough through the Early Access criticism because they don’t want to repeat what happened when they launched another game earlier than it should have been and they burned they burned themselves worse than Al Simmons skinning dipping in Hell’s lake of fire. They mention in the Early Access description…

“Crafty Studios developed the first remake of the RoA Trilogy, “Blade of Destiny” and released it in July 2013, only months after the “Early Access” program of Steam was started. It didn’t work out so well, and we had to continue development together with a very involved and enthusiastic community for more than a year after initial release to make it the game it is today.”

They’re taking it slow this time around, using community feedback and refining the game through the necessary steps to make the hardcore cRPG the best that it can be.

The game is an isometric, tactical turn-based title set within a high-fantasy universe involving goblins, elves and orcs. Players will be able to create a character, venture through dungeons and cities for loot and gold, as well as take on lots of quests while unlocking new fighting skills and magic abilities.
