Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood Update Set For June 20th, 2017

Square Enix has announced the release date for the Stormblood expansion for Final Fantasy XIV. Launching simultaneously across Japan and the West, the MMORPG will receive the update on June 20th, 2017.

Announced during Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2016 event in Tokyo, the latest expansion for FFXIV will release across the West and Japan simultaneously during the mid part of 2017. The game is currently out now for PC and PS4, and will gain new features when the update releases next year, which some of them can be seen in the screenshots below.

Moreover, according to the event we learn that there will be a special collector’s edition that will include the following content:

  • Special art by Yoshitaka Amano
  • Zenos figure
  • Stormblood art book
  • Cloth map of Eorzea
  • Original decals
  • Syldra MOunta (in-game item)
  • Wind-up Bartz Minion (in-game item)
  • Red Mage Main Arm: Chicken Knife (in-game item).

This now brings us over to the Red Mage in the game, who will be a new job set in Stormblood. To most fans who’ve played past FF games, you might already know about the Red Mage seeing how it was a very handy class. Well, it will make an appearance in the expansion and will stand as a ranged DPS dealer that uses rapiers and magicked crystal mediums. The job class can be acquired at level 50 and it doesn’t have an associated classes.

According to the event there will be no fighting in/under water, but folks will now be able to swim… that is if you are into swimming. In addition to swimming you will be able to mount flying and swimming creatures which allow you to dive under water to meet NPCs and partake in new gathering locations. The water update will also bring in “4.0 areas” and can be unlocked through a special quest.

We also learn that a new tribe will also make an appearance in the update and will be located near the mountains of Ala Mhigo. They are best known for their skills in spells and gem-crafting.

The last thing that was mentioned during the event was that there will be two new high-end raids to challenge up to 24 simultaneous players, according to some fans they believe that the raids will add on to the overall story in the game.

Before signing out you can watch the older teaser trailer for Stormblood, which the initial update is set to release on June 20th, 2017.
