Power Rangers All-Star Trailer Attempts Go For Lighthearted Appeal

It’s easy to be overly critical on the upcoming Power Rangers reboot. The movie looks like a hot mess based on the trailers they’ve put out so far, but the latest promotional piece called the “All-Star” trailer actually makes the movie look a little more tolerable than usual.

Instead of focusing on the rag-tag group of delinquent kids that most people would love to punch in the side of the head and slap upside the face, they’ve put more of a focus on the heroics of the Power Rangers and the comedic elements of the movie. That’s right, it’s easy to forget that this is supposed to be geared toward kids… but it is.

You can check out the trailer below, clocking in at just a minute, courtesy of Movieclips Trailer.

We get a clip of the rangers in their outfits, more of Rita terrorizing the town with that cheap knockoff of Goldar, a look at the new Megazord as well as the other battle zords for each of the rangers. There are some light comedy moments sprinkled in by the blue Ranger, and lots of quick action moments as the Rangers take the fight to Goldar.

We also see the new 3D oriented Alpha-5, who appears to be a cheap CGI knockoff of a Michael Bay Transformer.

Power Rangers - Alpha 5

The design is repulsive, but I’m sure kids will be as attracted to Alpha-5 as they were to Jar Jar Binks.

On the upside, at least they hint at using the original old Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers theme song, which is still one of the best theme songs from a 1990’s television show, alongside The Incredible Hulk and the absolutely unforgettable Uncanny X-Men that used to come on Fox.

Anyway, Power Rangers is due in theaters starting March 24th. Prepare to watch your childhood get raped.
