Dead Cells Guide: Basic Tips For Beginners

Dead Cells recently hit the gaming scene, allowing gamers around and about to play the Metroidvania, 2D-platformer. Newcomers looking to get into Motion Twins’ Dead Cells will hopefully find this guide for beginners to be helpful. The game itself is out now for PC via Steam Early Access.

Firstly, this guide is not for veterans of the game Dead Cells nor is it for finding secrets for said players, but for newcomers looking to understand the basic premise and functions in the 2D-platformer, Metroidvania game.

Below is the official description explaining what Dead Cells is all about:

“Dead Cells is a rogue-lite, metroidvania action-platformer. You’ll explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle… assuming you’re able to fight your way past its keepers in 2D souls-lite combat. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.”

Noted to be a fixed, hand designed, interconnected world. The game takes place on an immense and strange island that never changes (but the castle does), meaning that all the biomes, bosses and the paths that connect said places are present right from the beginning.

In addition to the above, the game replaces the traditional backtracking mechanic with death. Unreachable areas will be strewn across your path, but solutions to these problems manifest through keys, new acrobatic skills and spells. This means that the knowledge and skills acquired along your path will remain with you.

A video guide that teaches players how to easily beat the first few levels, the differences between weapons, enemies and items within Dead Cells can be seen below thanks to YouTuber MAdisMas.

I should note that in the video MAdisMas is using a PS4 Dual Shock controller, so if you are using another type of controller or if you are using your keyboard to play, replace the buttons found at the bottom left-hand corner with the button/keys on your device.

If you found the video above to be helpful more videos are said to come out in the future by MAdisMas, explaining Dead Cells further. Lastly, the game is available on Steam for $14.99.
