Skylar & Plux, Tropical 3D Platformer Now Available For PC, PS4, Xbox One
Skylar and Plux

If Yooka-Laylee left you wanting more 3D platforming action, you’ll likely find something potentially satisfactory in the form of Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island.

The 3D platformer from Grip Digital and Right Nice Games landed on the Xbox One, PS4 and on Steam for PC today. The game features various adventures in the tropical sandbox of Closer Island, as players will control Skylar and the feline’s sidekick Plux as they attempt to save natives from imprisonment from CRT.

The game was designed as a love-letter to the classic 3D adventure games toward the end of the 1990s and early 2000s. It’s also coming right on the heels of Team17’s Yooka-Laylee.

Players will venture across a variety of different biomes in order to stop the CRT monitor from devastating Clover Island and turning it into a wasteland. This includes traveling across snowy mountaintops, journeying through deserts, and exploring deep inside active volcanoes.

If you need a look at what the gameplay is like you can check out the trailer below.

A large part of the game hinges on using Skylar’s robotic arm to grapple across various platforms, and later on players can unlock additional abilities such as using a jetpack to get to harder to reach areas.

To mix up some of the platforming and action combat, the developers also implemented some puzzle elements so players would have a mixture of different challenges to overcome throughout the game.

The weapons and combat remind me a lot of Ratchet & Clank while the environments and platforming definitely seem to take inspiration from classics like Spyro.

I imagine those of you who may have skipped out on Yooka-Laylee for the devs deciding to politicize the happenings taking place outside the game might want to check out Skylar & Plux since the devs have largely stayed out of any sort of politicking.

Skylar & Plux is available right now for only $14.99.
