Calling all DeviantArt users, people who hide in the dark-side of the web and furry lovers, you will now be able to make your darkest dreams come true — oops, I mean… make your coolest characters come to life with the latest character creation implementation in Sega’s Sonic Forces. The game is set to release sometime during holiday season across PC, PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
At first I was actually going to put up a decent looking header image until I got to 1:06 in the first “Custom Hero” trailer, then I knew what Sega was up to… Sonichu and Sanic. I mean, really? why would they show such a depressed and dilapidated looking abomination like that and expect no one to bring up Sonichu or Sanic?
All jokes aside, the feature does add another layer to the game, especially if each custom part can be unlocked through trials, collecting certain items and meeting specific conditions.
Furthermore, players will be able to equip their created Hero character with one of a variety of powerful, unique gadgets called Wispons. These Wispons are an evolution of the Wisp powers from Sonic Colors and double over as both offensives abilities and a platform mechanism to speed through levels.
The Hero character will also come equipped with a grapple hook to get around stages and zones, which can be further enhanced by picking a certain animal with special abilities to amplify your play-style:
- Wolf – Automatically draws in rings when near them
- Rabbit – Has longer invincible time after receiving damage
- Cat – Keeps one ring after being hit
- Dog – Restarts with five rings after the player dies
- Bear – Blows away enemies with a homing attack
- Bird – Flies high with double jump abilities
- Hedgehog – Collects rings when getting damaged.
Players will be able to witness their very own created character throughout the entire game, meaning that the Hero character will act as a key part of the story; appearing in cut-scenes and will be a crucial element in helping Sanic, I mean… Sonic reclaim the world from Eggman.
