PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Dev Talks Cross-Play Between PC And Consoles
(Last Updated On: June 29, 2017)

In a recent interview featuring PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Chang Han Kim, we learn how the team is currently looking into bringing cross-play across PC and consoles to PUBG in the future. As it stands now, the Battle Royale game is only playable on PC via Steam Early Access.

According to publication site VG24/7 we learn that Bluehole Studios wants to bring PC and console cross-play to the PvP Battle Royale game known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The exact words that the PUBG dev, Chang Han Kim, told the site reads as follow:

“Cross network play between the PC and the console is definitely something we want to do down the road, and we don’t anticipate we’ll have any technical issues with that.”

In other words, the dev believes that the team will be able to bring a stable experience for console devices — that are currently out and that are to come — and different PC builds when the feature is shipped.

I think the real question that a lot of competitive PC players have in mind is how balanced will the experience play out when console players are pitted up against folks who have extreme keyboard + mouse skills? Well, the dev touches on that matter by saying that…

“But… when you consider the competitive side of the game, I do feel that there’s a balance issue between controllers and keyboard and mouse. That’s what’s making it difficult for us to do right away. If we’re going to allow players to use controllers we need to have the aim assist added in and things like that. We’re not going to be supporting it right away, but it’s something we’d like to look into later.”

Please do keep in mind that the feature of cross-play between PC and consoles won’t be coming any time soon to PUBG; the feature is just something that the devs are heavily considering and pondering over at this very moment.

Lastly, seeing that the Battle Royale-inspired game is coming to consoles — which has made a lot of fans happy — how do you feel about the whole cross-play feature and the compensation of aim assist to balance the experience of console players going against PC gamers?

I’ve been hearing there’s a lot of cheating going on: see all player position/names, invulnerability, invisibility. Talked to a friend about it, and they were saying it’s one of those games where local cheating has a big impact because of how the gameplay relies on stuff like hiding.

Another friend told me they heard you could disable the grass by editing the ini file, to reveal anyone hiding in grass. Same friend was really, really hyped up about the game coming out on PS4, until they announced that timed exclusive bullshit for XBox One X One XX One XXX, or was it XBox One? Whichever.

I’m not so sure whether I should buy it because even if it feels like it’s fun to watch, it may not be as fun to play. I did a quick browse of Reddit and saw people complaining about how you can’t shoot people through windowsills because of the messed up collision and the window bars. But the game is still in early access, of course. A bunch of these things will likely be fixed later on.
