A new trailer for the upcoming Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle was released during the San Diego Comic-Con parade of trailers that featured a variety of films and comic book inspired movies. Kingsman 2’s trailer goes down the path of being a violent red band affair, featuring some brief profane language, and a Mortal Kombat-style fatality involving an electric lasso.
One of the themes of the trailer is that after the Kingsman organization gets blown into bits, Eggsy finds himself in the arms of the Statesman, an American offshoot of the Kingsman. The cowboy-themed secret agency offers up more Western-style theatrics as opposed to the more dapper etiquette of the Kingsman agency. You can check out the fun-filled, action-packed trailer below.
The trailer combines all the tongue-in-cheek action we’ve come to love from the original Kingsman, but with the added bonus of an all new organization adding some twists and turns to the story.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that the Statesman are actually evil… it’s just that kind of film.
The other thing is that Colin Firth is back even though we all saw him get his head blown off by Samuel L. Jackson in the first film. He has a black patch over his glasses, seemingly indicating that he only lost an eye. It would seem a bit of a cop-out given that it was one of the defining moments of the first film and to renege on that emotional devastation for a cheap trick to bring back Harry seems kind of… well, like a cop-out.
At least the action still seems to be as stylized and fun as it was from the first film. The Statesman with the laser lasso and twin pistols looks like he could easily steal the show. I’m really looking forward to seeing how that all rounds out. You can look for Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle to go live on September 22nd later this year.
