Xbox Games With Gold For August Includes Bayonetta, Slime Rancher
Red Faction Armageddon
(Last Updated On: July 26, 2017)

Some mediocre titles are set to become available for free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers during the month of August. This includes two games for the Xbox One and two games for the Xbox 360. The two Xbox 360 titles are also backwards compatible, so technically you’ll be getting your hands on four Xbox One games.

The news was let loose over on the Major Nelson website, where Larry Hryb briefly detailed the four new games through a quick video teaser prepping Xbox fans for the August roll out. You can check it out below.

The month kicks off with both Bayonetta on the Xbox 360 and Slime Rancher. The former came out eight years ago for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game was later re-released for the Wii U as part of the build-up for the release of Bayonetta 2 on the console, and then just earlier this year Sega finally gave fans what they wanted by releasing the original Bayonetta on PC for the very first time.

You’ll only be able to get your hands on Bayonetta up until August 15th. After that Bayonetta will be replaced with Red Faction: Armageddon on August 16th. The game will only be available up until August 31st.

Xbox One owners alternatively will have Slime Rancher during the first half of August and Trials Fusion during the second half. The Xbox One games aren’t all that great – especially considering the fact that one of the games is an Early Access title – but at least the Xbox 360 games are fairly decent for those of you who missed out on either game last gen.

There’s nothing there that would make me subscribe to Xbox Live Gold, but it still beats whatever crap Sony has been lazily putting out these past few years. If you already have Xbox Live gold, you can look for the four free games to start rolling out at the beginning of August starting next week.

Slime Rancher is actually a blast to play and the recent additions have made it pretty mind blowing. One of my favorite games. I always re-install Slime Rancher, Planet Explorers, and Subnautica every time I have to wipe my system.

I only clicked the article to find out if the picture was from turok or from gears of war, or inversion or matt hazard, as it turns out its from red faction…..generic male grunt protagonist.

    • At least he’s not a diversity hero-for-hire.

Comics recently made Turok into a black man. And the dinos into Nazis. Why are we not hearing an uproar from the native american groups?

        • Whoa, really? I didn’t know they turned Turok into a black dude. Like, literally his whole story revolved around him being native American… so how does that work?

          • tajlund

Honestly, not very well. They’ve created a whole new Gold Key multiverse and they are eliminating the one that us old folks are used to: (male solar, native turok, male magnus, older Dr. Spector, male samson.) and replacing it with the SJW universe. (Female solar sharing a brain with male solar, black turok, female magnus that actually is a psychiatrist to robots instead of beating them into parts, hipster Dr. Spector, and what looks like the original Samson still).

Turok is an angry black man fighting Nazi Dinosaurs (it really is as stupid as it sounds) to find his missing daughter.

A smarter approach was taken by King Features. They’ve kept all the originals (Flash Gordon, the Phantom, Mandrake, Lothar, Prince Valiant.) Except Lothar has taken on the mantle of the Phantom until Kit’s daughter is trained enough to take over. (No male heir in this generation). Oh and Dale Arden was briefly the Empress of Mongo and married to Ming (who she threw into a portal thinking he’d die somewhere).

          • Wow that sounds awful.

          • tajlund

Yeah it is. Turok was a badass, I even have the R rated animated movie. Now, he’s a “try hard”.

I thought the concept of Matt Hazard was funny. He was literally generic male grunt protagonist, that was part of the joke. Red Faction unfortunately, yeah, the protagonists in those were pretty generic.

    Im happy with the offerings.

Maybe they have merely lulled me into lowered expectations but considering what Sony has been dropping on us (I havent touched this months freebies….again), i think these games are decent.
