Focus Home Interactive and Rogue Factor announced that there’s a new entry in the video game library of Warhammer 40K coming soon, and it’s called Necromunda: Underhive Wars. The tactical RPG will pit players against the ravenous gangs in Hive Cities, where each of the various gang factions will fight to take control of the Underhive.
This is being called the first game to properly capture the Necromunda universe from Games Workshop’s popular tabletop series. It puts players on the planet of Necromunda, which has been covered in poisonous ash wastes for thousands of years. Man has built up a complete network of Hive Cities to accommodate their living conditions, with the rich living above the clouds and the dirt-poor living in the subterranean concrete jungles. But there’s also a scourge of violence that comes with living in squalor, where gangs and thugs and the low-lives of humanity battle it out for territorial control.
There’s a teaser trailer that accompanied the news about Necromunda: Underhive Wars being announced, and you can check out the cinematic below.
The trailer obviously doesn’t give much away, but it’s a tactical turn-based strategy game, where you’ll fight it out in stages designed around vertical grids.
There are a number of playable gangs in the game, including the Goliaths, who are giant muscle-bound warriors, along with the Eschers… an all-female gang.
There will be other gangs unveiled as well, and you’ll be able to choose a gang and customize its members to fit your play-style. The game will apparently contain lots of bloody melee combat and XCOM-style firefights. Much like XCOM you’ll also have to deal with permanent injuries and permanent death of your units.
The game will have a 4X grand strategy quality to its overall campaign, where players will have to explore, examine and exterminate other gangs while expanding their own territory.
