11 Bit Studios announced that for a limited time you’ll be able to download This War Of Mine for free on Steam, ahead of the release of the developer’s upcoming game, Frostpunk.

You can download This War of Mine right now by heading over to the Steam store page.

Simply press the big green button, “Play Game”, to get it for free for a limited time. A 70% off discount is also available for those who wish to own the game once the free period is up.

The game will be free from now until April 8th, 2018. This will give you time to play This War of Mine and get acclimated to playing a game where you make tough choices and deal with dire circumstances before diving head first into Frostpunk, where you’ll be forced to make tough choices and deal with dire circumstances.

Both games center around the human condition of survability. In This War of Mine you start off with three survivors in a war torn home. The objective is simply to survive in any way that you can. This includes keeping food stocked and supplied, acquiring weapons if possible, and scavenging homes and local stores for resources.

You’ll have to deal with disease, starvation, hysteria, infections, and possible battle wounds, all while a war wages on outside the walls of your makeshift abode.

If Frostpunk could be described as a survival management game for an entire city, This War of Mine could be described as a microcosm of that.

11 Bit Studios decided to not only give the game away as part of a celebration for the upcoming April 24th release of Frostpunk, but also as a milestone celebration for selling more than 2.5 million copies of the game.

Proceeds of the game’s DLC goes toward the War Child charity, which helps fund services for displaced children.

Remember, you have from now until April 8th to get in on the free deal, allowing you to get your hands on the extended cut of This War of Mine.
