Apple’s AirPower Charger Mat is a wireless charging mat that is plugged into the wall and transfers electrical charge into Apple devices that are placed on the AirPower Mat.
The AirPower Mat was designed for Apple devices such as: the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and the iPhone X Plus, AirPods (with wireless charging case) Apple Watch and for other devices that have the Qi charging capabilities.
According to the latest report from Bloomberg, Apple is hoping to release it’s upcoming Charging Mat this year. It seems the company engineers are facing a few challenges, one of the challenges is making sure the AirPower Mat does not overheat. Another challenge is the complexity of the circuitry, the AirPower Mat is designed to hold up to three devices simultaneously, the Apple Watch, the iPhone, and the AirPods (with it’s future wireless case.) The report states that the engineers are having issues compiling multiple charging sensors throughout the Charging Mat, this way devices can be placed anywhere on the AirPower Mat and begin to charge. The charger is said to be based on custom charging technology to integrate with the Qi charging standard.
A source who chose not to be identified stated that this multi-device charging component is quite challenging because the design is set around different sized charging components all overlapping each other across the mat. it seems Apple’s engineers have set their designed standards quite high for the AirPower Mat, the design seems to be more advanced than it’s counterparts wireless charging mats.
According to Pocket-Lint, Apple has included a custom Apple chip that runs a stripped down version of the iOS mobile operating system in order to conduct the device power management and pairing with devices. Unfortunately, there has been very little talk on how much the AirPower Charging Mat will cost,at this point, rumor state it could cost between $199 to 294, this is just figures being tossed at this time. As more information surfaces, stay tuned for more updates regarding the upcoming Apple AirPower Wireless Charging Mat.
