A new roguelite is set to launch on Steam called Fission Superstar X, which is a completely ridiculous, side-scrolling, action-arcade shooter. The game attempts to combine some of the crew management of space strategy sims, but with the side-scrolling action oftentimes found in arcade classics like Darius G or Macross.
Turbo Pelvis 3000 opened up the Steam store page recently where they announced that in order to fix up some of the gameplay elements and iron out the kinks, they needed to push the game’s release date back by a small bit into the spring of 2019.
The announcement about the delay was accompanied by a brand new gameplay trailer was also posted up recently, which features some of the absurd enemies you’ll be facing off against, as well as some of the customization methods you’ll have at your disposal, which includes a Trump missile. According to the developer, some of the changes they made reflect the more refined, strategic layers added to the roguelite elements. So players who decide to go with a small, light ship will have less defenses for their ship, while those with larger ships with heavy armament will be able to deal more damage and take more damage, but at the risk of less maneuverability.
This adds an extra strategic measure to the way players go about acquiring upgrades and customizing the way their ship handles.
Turbo Pelvis 3000 mentioned in the comment section of the Steam update that the changes they’re making to the game should give it more depth than a scrolling-shooter like Gradius.
While the delay is likely going to make some gamers bummed, you have to admit that if the game has more options, more gameplay depth, and more strategy added in to give it a better pacing and flow, then there’s nothing wrong with that.
The full game will feature nine playable ships and over 100 different recuitable crew members, along with 64 different weapons, 20 different environments, and 70 enemy types stretched across eight different worlds.
