Bruce Campbell Kills Off Mortal Kombat 11 Rumor

Bruce Campbell, best known for his portrayal of Ash from the Evil Dead movies and criminally short-lived Starz series, has personally buried a recent rumor concerning his iconic character and a possible cameo in the new fighting game, Mortal Kombat 11.

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Ash would be a new playable character in the asymmetrical survival horror game, Dead by Daylight, folks cracked open the code of the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 11 and discovered what appeared to be a list of upcoming DLC characters. One of those characters was named “Ash” and, since Evil Dead’s Ash Williams is pretty much the only character that would make sense in that instance, it was assumed the chainsaw-armed badass was all but confirmed for the game.

Then, last week, Campbell took to Twitter and posted the following image, boasting a close-up look at Ash accompanied by the word, “September.”

Everyone assumed this meant that Ash would be joining the Mortal Kombat roster this fall and that Bruce was simply teasing that fact. But once the rumor mill got rolling in full force, the man himself decided to step in and set the record straight. His next tweet was a rather cheeky denial of the leading rumor, meaning we still don’t know what was being teased in the first place.

We can pull a few juicy tidbits from this latest tweet.

For starters, it wouldn’t make sense for Campbell to refute a rumor based on an image he teased himself, which leads me to believe he’s shooting straight with this second post. It makes sense he would want to guide expectations so Mortal Kombat fans aren’t bummed when a character reveal isn’t made, right?

I would argue it’s still possible Ash could be in line for a later reveal, but Campbell’s second tweet says the character isn’t going to be DLC, period. So it’ll be interesting to see if anyone from that supposed DLC leak makes the final cut or if, perhaps, Campbell is simply unaware it’s actually happening at this point.

My guess is that, based on the image, an Ash vs. Evil Dead comic or graphic novel may be on the way to give the ongoing story some closure. Guess we’ll have to wait until September to find out.
