Jedi: Fallen Order Extended Gameplay Video Still Shows Off Bad AI

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the upcoming works of Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment. For some odd reason, the devs decided to release an extended video of the EA Play E3 2019 gameplay trailer today, but it still holds dumbed down AI, wonky animations, and a player that could use some improvements skill wise.

Before railing on the cons in the new video, the extended footage offers a look into the hub aspects of Jedi: Fallen Order as well as extra gameplay that includes AT-AT destruction and a brief look at the skill tree.

The description of the trailer reads…

“Order 66 has been executed. Once, staying alive meant hiding your abilities. Now, you must embrace them. Use the Force to manipulate your environment, master lightsaber combat, explore dangerous terrain, and remain one step ahead of the Empire.”

The first of the features that I rattled off in the first paragraph includes the hub-like sections in the game. If you recall correctly, multiple interviews pertaining to the game talk about a “Metroid feel” in that you can go back and forth to areas and face-off with enemies again (to gain skill points) and discover places that you couldn’t reach due to requiring upgrades found later in the game. We can see this briefly at the bottom right corner that displays location names such as “Kashyyyk: River of Origin” or “Kashyyyk: Imperial Refinery.”

A spaceship also looks to serve as a hub-like station for you to interact with (although it looked like nothing was in there since it is a demo) after Kyle links up with the rebelling forces during his AT-AT hijack.

Speaking of the AT-AT, swimming is a thing that also links into a climbing section (something that you would find in an Uncharted game) where the protagonist must climb the limbs of the All Terrain Armored Transport to take down other Imperial forces and then some before ditching the war machine. Although the scene is mighty explosive, there doesn’t seem to be a real threat in that segment — much like the rest of the scenes in the gameplay trailer.

The extended trailer later turns into the one that we all know from EA Play 2019, except there are some sections that are a bit different when comparing the two playthroughs. The new version shows off a little bit of the branching skill tree, but it doesn’t offer anything noteworthy.

Lastly, the AI shown in the extended gameplay offers no real challenge besides standing around, which is quite sad. It doesn’t help when some of the animations (like combat moves and jumping/rolling around) look janky. Anyway, you can check out the new trailer for the game set to release across PC, PS4, and Xbox One come November 15th, 2019.
