If you wanted to try the game embroiled in controversy, best known as Shenmue 3, then look no further than the second half of September to do so. Yes, Deep Silver and YS Net will release a trial version on PC letting Kickstarter and Slacker Backers try the game via the Epic Games Store next month.
Although Shenmue 3 is coming out for PC via the Epic Games Store, PS4, and Xbox One on November 19th, 2019, a trial version is currently in the works for those that opted for the Kickstarter and Slacker Backer tiers.
Instead of waiting months to go hands-on with the third installment in the series of Shenmue games, folks that are okay with getting the Epic version over the Steam edition will be able to test the trial version in the second half of September.
The following information comes from shenmue.link, which shares how the team almost has all trial elements and features pinned down. Additionally, the team is also finalizing a due date and once done it will pop up on the official site:
Today we would like to make an announcement concerning the Kickstarter and Slacker Backer trial version of Shenmue III.
The trial version is scheduled for release during the second half of September. The elements and features to be included have almost all been pinned down, and we are now working to finalize a delivery date with our partners. Once a date has been confirmed, another announcement will be made here in the updates.”
The notice continues and explains how the trial version will feature a stand-alone act in Bailu Village. The trial version is estimated to last for an hour, and is replayable after clearing the main objective:
“The trial version will feature a stand-alone act with objective that takes place in the first area of Shenmue III, Bailu Village. The game will be playable for an estimated 1 hours, and will be replayable after the objective has been cleared. There are lots of activities to experience and we hope you go back for more until the trial expires.
*The trial version will also come with a PDF play guide.
**Saves will not transfer over to the final version.”
And to be clear, you must be a Kickstarter or Slacker Backer and have the Epic Games Store installed to play the PC trial of Shenmue 3 when the second half of September rolls around:
“The trial version will be for PC to be played on the Epic Games Store. An Epic Games account will be needed to play.”
