Nintendo Reportedly Bringing Paid Subscriptions To Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp isn’t a new game by any means. The mobile title that released for iOS and Android devices hit the scene back in 2017 and managed to gross over $111 million in revenue during its lifetime on the market. However, it looks like the Big N wants more of that mobile money according to a new report that sees the company craving to add paid subscriptions to Pocket Camp.

After the title that made headlines for all the wrong reasons, which goes by the name of Mario Kart Tour, made cash on mobile handsets through its microtransactions, it looks like Nintendo wants to follow up on that success.

Website gamesindustry.biz reports that Nintendo has revealed plans to introduce a “two-tier paid subscription model” that will one day hit Pocket Camp.

Reportedly, Nintendo is trying to offset Pocket Camp since it has been among the weakest performing mobile titles along with Dr. Mario World. In other words, the paid subscription model is to bring Pocket Camp up to par with Fire Emblem Heroes — a successful game since launch.

I should note that there’s currently no information on the pricing model, and the website says limited detail on features are out in the wild. The good news is that Nintendo, on November 21st, will release videos on the in-game two-tier paid subscription system.

In other words, later this week we’ll find out if Nintendo has another egregious mobile scheme up its sleeve like Mario Kart Tour, or if it’s a system that the Big N will use to sweep under the rug while laughing all the way to the bank.

So what does this all mean? Well, it means that the game going on three years of being on mobile devices will gain a paid subscription model moving forward and that November 21st is the day we’ll likely learn more about this system, all thanks to Mario Kart Tour.
