Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Remake Announced For Nintendo Switch

Way back in 2006 Nintendo released Spike Chunsoft’s Mystery Dungeon Pokémon spinoff in North America. Hitting the ground running the entry grew widespread popularity going on to generate 5 other spinoffs and selling 5.25 million units.

In Thursday’s Pokemon Direct Livestream Nintendo officially announced a remake of the original Rescue Team for the Nintendo Switch.

Rather than sporting the original 2 dimensional graphics the remake will feature three dimensional graphics with a picture book aesthetic. From the onset of the game players will be given a set of questions that will determine which Pokémon they will awake to find themselves as. Followed by choosing your partner for the remainder of the journey that will see players able to team up with 16 companions with the ability to form a party of 8 at a time.

After awakening as in the original, players will learn the world inhabited by only Pokémon has been rocked by a series of natural disasters that have brought turmoil to the world. The likely reason you were isekaied into the world. From there the player’s goal is to take his newly formed Rescue Team from Rookie Rank to the coveted Gold Rank through the completion of quests and exploration of dungeons that dot the landscape.

Combat will be turn based and akin to super hot. Things only move when you move giving the player time to contemplate their next action or dread the inevitability of their Dio-esk defeat upon time’s resumption.

A few additional features confirmed by Nintendo is Automatic mode where the game will play itself with you only needing to confirm actions. AKA it will have a journalist mode. During normal play if your team wipes in a dungeon other players can come to your rescue via the online integration or you can send you B-team in and hope they don’t demonstrate why they’re the B team in their quest to resurrect you.

A demo containing the early part of the game is available to download for free from the eShop. Nintendo has confirmed that when the game releases on March 6th all progress accomplished in the demo can be carried over to the official release.
