The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Is Scheduled To Launch On Next-Gen Consoles

As of now, and as of my knowledge, there are two Lord of the Rings games in the works. The first one, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, is a next-gen title that is being developed by Daedalic Entertainment and will appear in the most recent issue of Edge Magazine.

The second game is Amazon Game Studios and Athlon Games’ upcoming MMO set in Tolkien’s grand realm that will be free-to-play — and it has no name as of this writing. In addition, the game second Lord of the Rings title will hit PC and home consoles at launch, although it’s unclear if it will drop for next-gen systems.

Contrary to the second game, we know that the first upcoming Lord of the Rings title by Daedalic Entertainment will hit next-gen consoles thanks to the following tweet that Edge has up:

Issue 341 will supposedly offer readers inside scoop on the next-gen title, which I’m sure will cover things like the game’s setting, combat system, and more.

Thanks to website pushsquare.com, we learn that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to come out sometime in 2021 for the Xbox Series X and PS5.

The website also highlights the game being a “narrative-driven experience.” It’s unclear if this working title will try to monetize things with loot or skin-based mechanics, but what is for certain is that this title will be a “stunning next-gen adventure.”

Lastly, the website touches on Middle-earth Enterprises having a hand in this project in that a full-on collaboration is in the works. This work will allow the devs to tell “Gollum’s story from a perspective never seen before, in any storytelling medium.” One of the many pitches is that this game will stay true to the books of J.R.R. Tolkien without major deviations, but since this is current year, you best watch out.
