Waxworks Horror Game Sees Players Venturing Throughout Time To Thwart Ancient Curse

Went2Play’s Waxworks: Curse of the Ancestors is rather unique horror game, insofar that it takes place over the course of different time periods and is not too dissimilar in concept to Anthony Hickox’s 1988 horror film, Waxwork. However, the game is actually a direct remake of Horror Soft and Accolade’s 1992 Amiga dungeon-crawler of the same name. The upcoming game is set to enter into Early Access on January 8th, 2020.

The story centers around two twin brothers who suffer from a general curse placed upon their lineage by an old gypsy witch. The curse sees one every set of twins turn to the side of evil, and so it’s up to the protagonist to save his brother from a destined fate of evil after he’s informed about the curse via their recently deceased uncle, Boris.

Players are tasked with traveling through different time periods throughout the wax museum in order to discover a cure for Alex’s curse, and defeat the rampant evil that resides in each time period. A new trailer was released for the game, giving gamers a brief look at the gameplay elements and mechanics, which you can check out below.

The game is played in first person, and mixes traditional point-and-click adventuring and puzzle solving with survival and horror.

While a large portion of the game is about escaping from fiendish monsters, you’re not made entirely helpless like so many other horror games out there.

You’ll have to travel through the mines and defeat an evil plant monster; make your way through 1888 London and avoid being knicked by Jack the Ripper; and battle through a graveyard and a pyramid in order to take down zombies or rescue a princess from Anubis.

Went2Play has been working on Waxworks for just over eight months, and have plans on getting the Early Access version completed by August, 2020.

Their current plan is to roll out brand new content for the game every three months. We’ll see if they keep to that schedule once the game finally releases onto the Steam store starting January 8th.
