Anime Directors Show Support For Hong Kong Protestors

Two anime directors have come forward to air their public support for the Hong Kong protestors and their fight for freedom against the CCP. They decided to show their solidarity for those fighting for freedom by sending encouraging messages to said freedom fighters via social media.

Anime News Network reported that directors Tsutomu Mizushima and Seiji Mizushima both tweeted out support for Hong Kong’s democracy last weekend.

On May 16th, 2020 Tsutomu Mizushima, the director of Girls und Panzer and Shirobako, posted the following message.

Mizushima basically stated…

“Lately, I feel like the number of Hong Kong follower’s has increased. I support the democratization of Hong Kong. We support you.”

On May 17th, 2020 Seiji Mizushima, the director of Fullmetal Alchemist and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 tweeted the following…

In the tweet it says…

“Hong Kong, it’s a wonderful place. I love it. My friends in Hong Kong and my friends in China are cheering for democratization so that Hong Kong’s fifth generation demands will be passed without any more heartache.

This comes during a time where the CCP are ousting Hong Kong politicians to force votes to give Mainland China more control and authority over Hong Kong regulations and laws.

As pointed out by Anime News Network, Tsutomu Mizushima’s support for Hong Kong actually spurred up a week before that when he pointed out that a lot of the money for producing anime comes from China, and that anime producers and directors in Japan keep their mouths shut so long as the money keeps rolling in.

In the tweet, Tsutomu said…

“I finally understand why so many people are tweeting about the amendment, but asking about China, which has nothing to do with it.

“The anime industry has a lot of Chinese money in it, so you can protest about domestic issues, but you can’t speak ill of China as a sponsor.

“Well, there is certainly a lot of Chinese capital.”

He also joked about using the Chinese money to make a Winnie The Pooh anime.

Epic burn.
