No Gravity Games’ Star Horizon has officially launched on the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop for $9.99. The game is currently 20% off during the week of release, but if you purchased a previous No Gravity Games title, you can get Star Horizon for 50% off.
The game is basically an off-brand version of Star Fox. You’ll fly through a number of locations battling against enemies using space-age weaponry in some cool sci-fi ships.
In fact the game features a whopping 256 different space ships that you’ll encounter across 10 different missions, spanning three massive boss battles and 16 different types of weapons to utilize.
You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what the gameplay is like for this Star Fox-style rail-shooter.
The story follows the exploits of a Federation pilot named John in a war between the Federation and the Rebels. John’s job is to basically ensure that his ship’s AI, Ellie, flies properly and all he has to do is maintain the guns and shoot down any rebels that get in his way. However, the mothership that controls the AI gets toasted and John ends up in hypersleep for several years, awakening to a completely different battlefield landscape.
The story is certainly more interesting than it has any right to be, and the gameplay seems to compliment the overall worldbuilding that Ortbital Knight has built for the title.
Throughout the journey you’ll be able to acquire new weapons and upgrades for your ship, and exercise your hand-eye reaction through some intricate levels constructed around impressive space battles.
It’s weird that we don’t get more of these games, but I guess it’s because the last Star Fox outing on the Wii U was a bit of a stinker, and people only make clones of popular games, like Breath of the Wild.
Anyway, Star Horizon is available right now and you can get your hands on the game or learn more about the on-rails shooter by visiting the Nintendo eShop.
