Tiny Racer, Wholesome Racing Game Heads To Nintendo Switch July 31st

Wholesome gaming is a rarity these days. I know that seems like a bold thing to say, but it’s true. Finding a game you can play with the whole family is actually rare. However, you can find some indie gems every once in a while that stays true to gaming and focuses solely on the gameplay and the features. IceTorch Interactive’s Tiny Racer seems to be one of those games.

The budget-priced racer is only going for $7.99 for those who pre-purchase the title, but otherwise you’ll be able to pick up a copy starting July 31st for just $9.99 from over on the Nintendo eShop.

Tiny Racer features 15 different tracks, eight different vehicles, three difficulty settings, and three game modes. You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

The gameplay is very similar to the old Hot Wheels games but with a bigger focus on track challenges and maneuverability.

For instance, you have to avoid falling off the sides of a ramp with no rails, or properly manage to bunny hop across objects in a sink without falling.

It’s not the most impressive looking or challenging racing game around, but it does look like simple fun, and the local two-player split-screen play certainly adds some extra layers of replayability to the table. I do wish it had something a little more original at its core, like SpaceRibbon, but I guess you can’t win ’em all.

Hopefully the frame-rate is better in-game than how it appears in the trailer. It reminds me of Super Toy Cars, but I felt that that game’s biggest drawback was not being properly optimized for the Nintendo Switch, and having a lot of leftover physics issues present from the Unity engine.

Anyway, Tiny Racer is due to drop on July 31st, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.
