Stig Asmussen Says Jedi: Fallen Order Takes Cues From Metroid Prime And Dark Souls

Earlier this month at EA Play, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment showcased 13 minutes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gameplay — which looks like it could have easily popped out of the last decade. As of now, the director for Fallen Order says that the November 2019 due game takes cues from Metroid Prime and Dark Souls’ structure. Salt and Sanctuary Nintendo Switch Review: Souled Out

[Disclosure: A review code was provided for the contents of this article]

Now, we all know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but sometimes people take the saying very, very literally. Like the people who made Salt and Sanctuary, for example. A two dimensional platformer that has been doing the rounds on PC, Vita and both of the Xbox One and PS4 since 2016, Salt and Sanctuary has recently dodge-rolled its way onto Nintendo Switch, bringing with it gameplay that is so clearly inspired by Dark Souls that I don’t know why the designers didn’t seek to license it as such, somehow! The Surge: A Walk in the Park DLC Review: Riding High Again

The Surge A Walk In The park Review

[Disclosure: A review copy was provided for the contents of this article]

When it first came out just over six months ago, The Surge surprised a lot of people by offering players a glimpse into a bleak future where Blade RunnerRobocop and Universal Soldier meet Dark Souls beneath a burning hot sun. Bleached sand and tumbledown structures of metal and concrete contrasted with the colourful, corporate armour of the once human husks that roam the barren, post-apocalyptic world caused by the titular energy surge. Cupsouls Mashes Cuphead And Dark Souls Together Into A Retro 2D Romp

Cupsouls

Game journalists don’t regularly play games, nor do they have a sound understanding of gaming history. Everything that poses any modicum of difficulty for them in the realm of interactive entertainment is always ostensibly attributed to the hardships of Dark Souls. Studio MDHR’s Cuphead has oftentimes been compared to Dark Souls by reviewers because they didn’t grow up in the coin-up era or the 16-bit era and have no other point of reference to make other than From Software’s action-RPG. Death’s Gambit New Trailer Reveals Dark Souls-Like World But In 2D

I like the Souls games and Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter, and it seems as if publisher Adult Swim and developer White Rabbit merged Dark Souls’ world, Hyper Light Drifter and Shadow of the Colossus together to make up Death’s Gambit, which is fine by me. The 2D action adventure game will be available for PC and PS4 sometime “soon.” Continue reading “Death’s Gambit New Trailer Reveals Dark Souls-Like World But In 2D”
