Minnesota lawyer Nick Rekieta started the GoFundMe for Dragon Ball Super star and anime voice actor, Vic Mignogna, in order to help him accrue the legal fees to fight back against the defamation that cost him work within the voice acting business. Initially the goal was to garner $100,000, but the funds have gone way past that, and are now just above $205,000 heading into the court hearing scheduled to take place on August 8th, 2019. Funimation has a growing hate-hate relationship with anime fans over the years, especially after they chose to throw fan-favorite voice actor Vic Mignogna under the bus after spurious allegations were made against Mignogna in order to tarnish his legacy and get him kicked out of the anime industry. Now, the allegations don’t have much weight or proof behind them, but they have circulated throughout various media outlets, which initially led to Funimation making a snap decision to fire Mignogna from Morose Mononokean‘s second season. Well, following up on that decision, the company publicly announced that they would not be “engaging” with Mignogna for any future productions, which means that Dragon Ball Super: Broly will be Mignogna’s last performance as the character Broly.
